INTRODUCTION

Refer to this document if you encounter difficulties with one or more aspects
of installation or running the Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe game. Many of the
most commonly encountered issues are covered here.
INSTALLATION & SET UP

1. Minimum System Requirements
- 3D hardware accelerator card required - 100% DirectX(R) 9.0c-compliant 128 MB
video card and drivers*
- Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP or Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Vista
- Pentium(R) 1.6 GHz or Athlon(TM) 1.6 GHz or higher processor
- 256 MB of RAM or 1GB of RAM for Windows(R) Vista systems
- 700 MB of uncompressed hard disk space (Plus 500MB for swap file.)
- A 100% Windows(R) XP/Vista-compatible computer system including:
- DirectX(R) 9.0c (Included)
- 100% DirectX(R) 9.0c - compliant true 16-bit sound card and drivers
- 100% Windows(R) XP/Vista - compatible mouse, keyboard and drivers
- 100% Windows(R) XP/Vista - compatible 4X DVD-ROM drive or better (600 K/sec
sustained transfer rate) and drivers
- 100% Windows(R) XP/Vista - compatible gamepad (optional) (Ten or more buttons
and dual analog thumb sticks required)

*Supported Chipsets for Windows(R) XP and Vista
All NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) FX5200 128 MB and better chipsets
All ATI(R) Radeon(TM) 9500 128 MB and better chipsets

*Important Note: Some 3D accelerator cards with the chipsets listed here may
not be compatible with the 3D acceleration features utilized by Spider-Man:
Friend or Foe. Please refer to your hardware manufacturer for 100% DirectX(R)
9.0c compatibility.



2. Autoplay

If the Windows Autoplay feature is enabled on your computer, the installer will
begin when you insert the Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe DVD into your DVD-ROM
drive. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue the installation. If the
game is already installed on your system, the Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe Launch
screen will appear.

If the Autoplay feature is disabled, you can begin the installation by doing
the following:
a) Go to the Start Menu and select Run.
b) Type D:SETUP.EXE (assuming D is your DVD-ROM drive letter) and press
Enter.

-or-

a) Double-click on My Computer
b) Double-Click your DVD-ROM drive icon.
c) Double-click on SETUP.EXE.

3. DirectX Detection & Installation

During the Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe install setup, you will have the option
to install DirectX 9.0c on your computer. It is recommended that you choose to
update to the newest version of DirectX. If you already have other Windows XP
games on your computer, chances are you already have a version of DirectX
installed. In this case, the Microsoft installer will detect it and will not
overwrite any files. You will not need to restart your computer after
installation in order to run Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe. If, however, you do
not already have DirectX 9.0c installed the Microsoft installer will detect and
overwrite any previous versions with DirectX 9.0c. At that point, you will need
to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

If you choose not to install DirectX 9.0c when you install the game, you can
manually install it later. To do so, use the following instructions:

1. Place your Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe disk in the DVD-ROM drive. The Launch
screen should appear. (See the AutoPlay section above if it does not appear.)
2. Click on the "Extras" button.
3. Click on "DirectX" and follow the installation process. When DirectX
installation finishes, you will need to restart your computer for the new
drivers to work.
If you encounter the following error message, then you have tried to start the
game without the correct version of DirectX installed on your computer:
"DirectX 9.0c is not installed on this computer. Install it and try again."
You will need to follow the directions above to install DirectX before starting
the game.







VIDEO ISSUES

1. Monitors

- Please make sure your monitor supports the game resolution you are trying to
play in. To check what resolutions your monitor supports, do the following:
a) Open up My Computer
b) Double-click on Control Panel
c) Find the Display icon and open it
d) Choose the Settings tab
e) Locate the resolution pointer in the Desktop or Screen Area box and drag it
to the far right

The resolution choice shown is the maximum resolution your monitor is capable
of displaying. If you do not want to change to this resolution now, select
cancel. Your Desktop Area should be set to the game resolution you are trying
to play in or higher.

NOTE: Please make sure your monitor type is properly specified to insure
correct reporting of available video resolutions.


2. In-game and Desktop resolutions

In most cases, Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe should choose the proper resolution
for your system based on your processor, system memory, and video card.
Changing the game resolution may result in decreased performance or visual
quality.

3. Windowed Mode

Windowed mode is not a supported feature of Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe.
4. The game will not load game levels while running two Nvidia GeForce 7950’s
in SLI mode on a Windows Vista 64bit machine.
The game does not support the use of two Nvidia GeForce 7950’s in SLI mode on a
Windows Vista 64bit machine. If you have this set up you can play the game by
either disabling SLI mode or by turning the Video Quality option to medium or
low in the Options Menu.




OTHER KNOWN ISSUES AND GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

1. Frame-rate issues on AMD Dual Core processors
Some users may encounter Frame-rate issues when playing Spider-Man™: Friend or
Foe on AMD Dual Core Processor systems with Windows XP installed. If you
encounter this issue, try the following to fix it.
a. Download the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and
Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16 from
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html
and install it.
b. Download WindowsXP-KB896256-v4-x86-ENU.exe from
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256 and install it.
c. In order to enable the hotfix installed with
WindowsXP-KB896256-v4-x86-ENU.exe you will need to make the following changes
to the Windows Registry (always make a back up of the Windows registry before
making any changes):
• Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
• Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession
Manager, point to New, and then click Key.
• Type Throttle for the new key name.
• Right-click Throttle, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
• Type PerfEnablePackageIdle for the value name.
• Right-click PerfEnablePackageIdle, and then click Modify.
• In the Value data box, type 0. Make sure that Hexadecimal is selected in the
Edit DWORD Value dialog box, and then click OK.
d. Download and Install the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer from
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html
2. Surround Sound does not function

Surround Sound does not work with a Windows Vista system if using an integrated
SoundMAX digital HD audio sound card.



3. XBOX 360 Controller Issue

If the user presses the XBOX Guide button during the install of SMFOF (the
Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories Application will open) while the computers
resolution is set to anything other then 1024x768, the game will not start. In
order to avoid this issue do not press the XBOX Guide button during the install.
If you accidentally press the guide button during install, press the guide
button again to get the Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories Application to close and
when trying to start the game it will now load as intended.



4. Saitek 2900 Game Controller issue

When using the Saitek 2900 Game controller sometimes the Invincibility power-up
will trigger on its own without user input.

5. Saitek 2600 Game Controller issue

The Saitek 2600 Game Controller is not supported for Spider-Man™: Friend or Foe
and will cause the game to crash on start up.

6. Options for Lower End Systems

On lower end systems, it is advised to close any and all programs (including
anti-virus software) that are running in the background, followed by choosing
the lowest resolution in the Options Menu. If the game runs well at these
settings, then slowly increment the quality with a single resolution change to
a higher setting. If the game continues to perform well under the new
circumstances, then continue this process until it performs at the best visual
quality, without any loss or effect to gameplay.
